Sexy women’s costumes are always a big hit at parties, but at what age do we allow our daughters to start looking sexy? 18? 16? 8?!!
I ran across this article on the old Feminist Law Professors site, that has some pretty disturbing images. Costumes with names like “Miss Behaved” and “Major Flirt” can only encourage young girls to develop inappropriate self images.

“I Love Pink Charmed Witch”
Yes, the article is a little old. but these costumes, and worse, are still for sale; and the girls modeling them are clearly under 10 years old.
Am I right here? Or am I just turning into a cranky old fart who is out of touch with the real world?

Yes, I think you are right in many ways. This is the first time I have really looked into the range of Halloween costumes and some of the costumes for tweens seem to be very provocative. I assume parents would actually buy the costumes, especially from an online source, so they would have to sanction the wearing of the costume to some extent but they obviously sell or they wouldn’t be available.

you are absolutely right. i work in an elementary school and this past halloween we had to stock up on cardigans and extra pants/leggings to cover up some of our kids. One of my grade 6′s came dressed as a “sexy ladybug”… basically consisting of a mini length tube dress, wings, and high heels.
very disturbing, makes you wonder what kind of parents would want their 11 year old daughter being “sexy”.
